The River Glaven was the subject of a recent article by John Bailey in the Eastern Daily Press. The piece covered the fish history of the river and some of the important wildlife that the Glaven supports.
John lamented the loss of dace (Leuciscus leuciscus) from the river. I for one have never seen one in the Glaven in the 20 or so years that I have known it well. Further, I dont think they have turned up in any recent fish surveys.

Certainly the Glaven holds a diversity of fishes: brown trout, eel, bullhead, stone loach, 3-spine stickleback, brook lamprey, roach, perch, pike, gudgeon are all present. Some oddities have also turned up in fish surveys including a tench at Hunworth and even a goldfish! But no dace…
John applauded the work of the River Glaven Conservation Group and it was great to see the Glaven covered in the press.
